Giving when it counts............!!!
Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year-old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, “Yes, I’ll do it if it will save her.”
As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, “Will I start to die right away?”.
Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.
Sharp to bring 3D-capable smartphones to India in 2011.....!!!
Sharp, the Japanese consumer electronics giant who recently made an entry into the Indian mobility market, has announced it will be bringing in 3D smartphones to India, China, and the United States by 2011, probably in the form of the recently introduced Galapagos Android hansets, featured below. This information also matches the 4-5 month timeline Sharp had given us for bringing in high-end smartphones into the Indian market, as well as previous indications that Sharp would launch a 3D smartphone by the end of the year (the Galapagos 003SH is scheduled arrive on Japanese carrier, Softbank's network by December)
While it is not definite that the 3D-capable smartphones Sharp will bring into the Indian market will be the Galapagos 003SH and 005SH handsets, let us take a look at them to give us a fair idea of what we might soon have in store for us:
Both phones are nearly identical, with the 005SH featuring a QWERTY sliding keyboard in addition. Both phones have a 3.8-inch autostereoscopic display similar to that on the upcoming Nintendo 3DS portable game console, with a resolution of 800x480 pixels. They will be powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and run Android Froyo. While both phones are capable of recording 720p HD video, the 003SH has a 9.6MP camera onboard, while the 005SH has an 8MP camera.
Details of 4.3-inch screen bearing Sony Ericsson Anzu revealed, a.k.a Xperia X12.......!!!
Sony Ericsson has been on the receiving end of innumerable jibes for updating the Donut Android 1.6-based Xperia X10 family with Éclair Android 2.1 instead of directly to Froyo Android 2.2. While there are plenty of new features to enjoy, such as 5 homescreens, 720p HD video recording, etc., the Xperia X10 even fully updated still has some disadvantages compared to other Android smartphones in the market, including a 65K colour screen that still can’t support 16M colours for software reasons, and the lack of multi-touch input.
Well, multi-touch input has been promised by Q1 2011 by Sony Ericsson, it’s obvious the company is now going to be putting most of its hopes into its latest Xperia phone, the Xperia X12, thought to be the phone codenamed Anzu. While current images of the Sony Ericsson Anzu device show Android 2.1 onscreen, the latest news is the phone will come with Gingerbread Android 2.3 out of the box when it releases in Q1 2011. What is also possible is that Sony Ericsson will release the Anzu / X12 with Froyo Android 2.2 out of the box, and offer a Gingerbread Android 2.3 update over the air at a later date. In case you were wondering, the Anzu’s screen is supposedly a 4.3-inch AMOLED LCD that supports 16M colours.
So far, a lot of information has been leaked about the device, found neatly compiled in the table below. The X12 is reputedly a very slim device (between 8.7mm and 10.9mm thick), as can be seen in the above leaked pics, and will feature 720p HD video recording with its rumoured 12MP camera (with Exmor R sensor), HDMI-out, and multi-touch support.
