High Alert !!! Orkut Hit by Bom Sabado Worm

Looks like it's a bad time for all major social networks out there. Recently, Twitter faced an attack by hackers after a security flaw was unearthed by a user. Soon after, Facebook saw its worst downtime in four years and now its Orkut's turn to be under attack by a worm known as Bom Sabado.

If you are in a country which hasn't heard of Orkut, let us inform you that this Google-owned website is the most used social network in Brazil - with a significant number of users in India too. While it may be small compared to Facebook (which boasts of half a billion users), 52 million active Orkut users is, by no means, a small number.

Anyway, as for the Bom Sabado worm, it is a JavaScript based worm that spreads itself through Orkut scraps (the Orkut equivalent of a Facebook wall scribble). The worm is an auto generated message which might look like just another scrap from your buddy. The scrap actually embeds a malicious JavaScript code which infects the profile of the person as soon as he opens the scrap page. Soon after this, the code is executed and it will make the user join bot communities automatically. The worm then starts posting similar scraps to the user's friends using his name, thereby spreading itself. The worm also steals browser cookies.

Orkut has now posted an entry at its support site where it says that the worm is now contained. If you were affected by this, make sure you clear all your browser cookies and more importantly, change your Orkut password.

Mozilla Seabird 3D !!!

Mozilla premieres its Open Web Concept Phone - the Seabird........!!!!

Mozilla Seabird
Mozilla Labs launched the Concept Series a couple of years ago with an open call for participation, and according to them, thousands of people have joined since, and we believe them. The concepts were to be driven around “Firefox, the Mozilla projects and the Open Web as a whole,” and Billy May went ahead and designed the concept of an “Open Web Concept Phone” back in early 2009. Now, after sharing ideas and taking feedback from the Concept Series community, he has published a truly beautiful take on what an Open Web phone might look like, calling the concept “Seabird.” Before we go any further, just take a look at a video of the concept phone below, to understand how it stands out from all other current generation phones:

According to Billy May, this is what the Seabird is:
The Mozilla Seabird, part of the Mozilla Labs’ Concept Series, is an experiment in how users might interact with their mobile content as devices and technology advances. Drawing on insights culled from the Mozilla community through the project’s blog, a focus quickly developed around frustrating physical interactions. While mobile CPUs, connectivity and development platforms begin approaching that of desktops, the lagging ability to efficiently input information has grown ever more pronounced.
Wanting to take user interaction to the next level, Billy May visualized how a phone might use advanced motion capture and projector technologies to understand its user’s intentions, with great “precision and direct manipulation of content in 3D space.” Billy stated that while LG, Samsung and Motorola are looking at pico projectors in realm of display, they’ve not yet considered the possibilities of interaction and input with it, when combined with IR or Bluetooth. Skinput and Sixth Sense are other areas that could soon see the light of day in real devices.
So, as you can see in the above video, along with a dock, Bluetooth dongle, IR sensor, and dual-side pico projectors, Billy May has shown us how intuitive a phone can be in terms of an input interface. The concept also features an 8MP camera and wireless charging.

                                                           Curvature

The Seabird’s design was apparently inspired by “various aerodynamic, avian and decidedly feminine forms.” The very sexy curvature of the phone apparently serves more than just an aesthetic purpose, but also elevates the projector lens elements when the phone is lying flat.
While we all know that this concept phone will never really see the light of reality, we just hope that major/minor manufacturers are taking a close look, and trying to learn something, from design cues to interface elements.

A Box Full of Kisses..........

The story goes that some time ago, a man punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy."

The man was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found out the box was empty. He yelled at her, stating, "Don't you know, when you give someone a present, there is supposed to be something inside? The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and cried, "Oh, Daddy, it's not empty at all. I blew kisses into the box. They're all for you, Daddy."

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged for her forgiveness.

Only a short time later, an accident took the life of the child. It is also told that her father kept that gold box by his bed for many years and, whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each one of us, as humans beings, have been given a gold container filled with unconditional love and kisses... from our children, family members, friends, and God. There is simply no other possession, anyone could hold, more precious than this.
